Cycle Routes to Garstang

One of the major benefits of the great location here at Woodlands, is the huge choice of cycle routes available for every level of fitness and ability. From a gentle meander around the local lanes, to challenging rides through the Trough of Bowland, there are so many different routes to enjoy, all within easy reach. You can even ride out from your own doorstep and enjoy the stunning scenery that is all around us.

The Fylde is mostly flat farmland, so it’s ideal for leisure cycling, offering great exercise without too much exertion. You’ll also find the local country roads nice and quiet, with plenty of visibility, making cycling so much safer.

Recommended routes

Visit Lancashire has a downloadable leaflet featuring ten cycle routes around the town, ranging from 6 to 34 miles. These include a 6mile circular route to the north of Garstang and a 7mile circuit to the east, as well as a 25mile route that passes close to Woodlands on its way to the coast at Knott End. Invest in a cycle carrier and you can explore the Fylde Coast, with cycle paths along most of the coastal promenades. has a full circuit that covers the full length of the coastline in a 40mile circle, but you don’t have to do it all at once.

The Guild Wheel

Created to celebrate the last Preston Guild in 2012, the Guild Wheel cycle route takes you on a full circuit of the town on a fascinating 21mile ride. You can download a map of the Guild Wheel and find out more about what you will see along the way.

The Guild Wheel takes you along around the city through incredibly varied environments, from the meandering River Ribble, to the largest nineteenth century dock in Europe, from ancient woodlands to historic city parks, and even takes in Brockholes Nature Reserve.

Garstang Cycling Club

Garstang Cycling Club welcomes new members whatever level you are at with your cycling, with regular club nights and rides for all ages and abilities. Visit their website and you’ll find over 60 mapped cycle routes, as well as a wealth of information on local cycle shops and much more.

Membership is just ten pounds per year and the club holds four levels of ride offering something for every ability, from testing A grade rides to more gentle C grade routes.

Ride with friends

Of course, you can always arrange your own ride, perhaps joining some friends from Woodlands for a pedal around the local lanes, or a drive out to somewhere new before you unload your bikes. You’ll find plenty of like-minded people at Woodlands who share your interest and your healthy lifestyle.
